​Throwing Off the Cloak

​'Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. '

When Jesus called Bartimaeus, he threw his cloak aside and jumped to his feet. That cloak likely represented his identity as a beggar—perhaps his only possession and security. Yet he cast it off without hesitation to come to Jesus. What cloaks are you clinging to? What hindrances keep you from fully embracing Christ's call?

​Hebrews urges us to "throw off everything that hinders." Perhaps it's a comfortable sin, a distraction, a relationship, or even a dream that competes with God's plan. Genuine faith responds to Jesus' call by releasing whatever holds us back. Bartimaeus received not just physical sight but spiritual insight—and he followed Jesus. True transformation requires letting go.

Despojarse del manto

'Por tanto, también nosotros que estamos rodeados de una nube tan grande de testigos, despojémonos de todo peso y del pecado que nos asedia y corramos con perseverancia la carrera que tenemos por delante. Fijemos la mirada en Jesús, el iniciador y perfeccionador de nuestra fe, quien por el gozo que le esperaba soportó la cruz, menospreciando la vergüenza que ella significaba, y ahora está sentado a la derecha del trono de Dios. Así, pues, consideren a aquel que perseveró frente a tanta oposición por parte de los pecadores, para que no se cansen ni pierdan el ánimo. '

Cuando Jesús llamó a Bartimeo, este arrojó su manto a un lado y se puso de pie de un salto. Ese manto probablemente representaba su identidad como mendigo; tal vez era su única posesión y seguridad. Sin embargo, se despojó de él sin dudarlo para acercarse a Jesús. ¿A qué mantos te estás aferrando tú? ¿Qué obstáculos te impiden responder plenamente al llamado de Cristo?

Hebreos nos insta a «despojarnos de todo peso que nos estorba». Tal vez sea un pecado cómodo, una distracción, una relación o incluso un sueño que compite con el plan de Dios. La fe genuina responde al llamado de Jesús soltando lo que sea que nos retenga. Bartimeo recibió no solo la vista física, sino también una visión espiritual, y siguió a Jesús. La verdadera transformación requiere dejar ir.
