The Finished Work

28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. "It is finished." These three words from the cross echo through eternity, declaring that redemption is complete. Yet how often do we keep reaching for our spiritual wallets, trying to pay a debt already settled? Jesus lived the life you should have lived and died the death you should have died. The work underneath your work—that exhausting need to be good enough—is done.

The saddest people in the story weren't those who knew they were broken; they were the religious leaders who stood inches from Jesus and completely missed Him. Don't let legalism blind you to grace. You are already accepted, already loved, already complete in Christ.

Today, stop striving. Stop carrying what Christ has already carried. Simply rest in His finished work.

28 Después de esto, como Jesús sabía que ya todo había terminado, y para que se cumpliera la Escritura, dijo: 
—Tengo sed.
29 Había allí una vasija llena de vinagre; así que empaparon una esponja en el vinagre, la pusieron en una caña y se la acercaron a la boca. 30 Al probar Jesús el vinagre, dijo:

«Consumado es». Estas tres palabras desde la cruz resuenan a través de la eternidad, declarando que la redención está completa. Sin embargo, ¿con qué frecuencia seguimos buscando nuestras billeteras espirituales, intentando pagar una deuda que ya ha sido liquidada? Jesús vivió la vida que tú debiste haber vivido y murió la muerte que tú debiste haber muerto. La obra que está detrás de todo tu esfuerzo —esa agotadora necesidad de ser lo suficientemente bueno— ya está terminada.

Las personas más tristes de la historia no fueron aquellas que se sabían rotas; fueron los líderes religiosos que estuvieron a centímetros de Jesús y se lo perdieron por completo. No dejes que el legalismo te ciegue ante la gracia. Ya eres aceptado, ya eres amado, ya estás completo en Cristo.

Hoy, deja de esforzarte tanto. Deja de cargar lo que Cristo ya ha cargado. Simplemente descansa en Su obra consumada.
