Shriveled Hands, Shriveled Hearts

Another time Jesus went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. 2 Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath. 3 Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.”

4 Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.

5 He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored. 6 Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.

The man with the shriveled hand knew he was broken and needed help. The Pharisees, with their shriveled hearts, couldn't see their own need.

Pride blinds us to our brokenness, making us focus on others' failures while ignoring our own spiritual poverty. Jesus was angry not at people who struggled, but at religious leaders who valued rules over restoration.

Which person are you today? The one honest about your need, or the one watching others critically? True healing begins when we acknowledge our brokenness before Jesus. He doesn't ask you to fix yourself first—He simply says, "Stretch out your hand." Trust Him with what you cannot change.

What brokenness have you been hiding? Will you stretch it out to Jesus today?

Manos secas, corazones secos

En otra ocasión entró en la sinagoga, y había allí un hombre que tenía la mano paralizada. 2 Algunos que buscaban un motivo para acusar a Jesús no le quitaban la vista de encima para ver si sanaba al enfermo en sábado. 3 Entonces Jesús le dijo al hombre de la mano paralizada: —Ponte de pie frente a todos.

4 Luego dijo a los otros: —¿Qué está permitido en sábado: hacer el bien o hacer el mal, salvar una vida o matar? Pero ellos permanecieron callados.

5 Jesús se les quedó mirando, enojado y entristecido por la dureza de su corazón, y le dijo al hombre: —Extiende la mano. La extendió, y la mano le quedó restablecida. 6 Tan pronto como salieron los fariseos, comenzaron a tramar con los herodianos cómo matar a Jesús.

Lectura: Marcos 3:1-6
El hombre de la mano seca sabía que estaba quebrantado y necesitaba ayuda. Los fariseos, con sus corazones secos, no podían ver su propia necesidad.

El orgullo nos ciega ante nuestro propio quebrantamiento, haciendo que nos enfoquemos en los fracasos de los demás mientras ignoramos nuestra propia pobreza espiritual. Jesús no se enojó con las personas que luchaban, sino con los líderes religiosos que valoraban las reglas por encima de la restauración.

¿Cuál de los dos personajes eres hoy? ¿El que es honesto acerca de su necesidad, o el que observa a los demás con ojo crítico? La verdadera sanidad comienza cuando reconocemos nuestro quebrantamiento ante Jesús. Él no te pide que te arregles primero; simplemente te dice: «Extiende tu mano». Confíale aquello que no puedes cambiar.
