In the journey of life, we often find ourselves at crossroads, facing rivers that seem impossible to cross. These moments challenge our faith, pushing us to decide between doing things our way or trusting in God's guidance. As we reflect on the story of Joshua and the Israelites crossing the Jordan River, we're reminded of the power of obedience and the importance of leaving a legacy of faith.

The Israelites stood at the edge of the Jordan, facing their first major obstacle on the path to the Promised Land. The river was swollen, its waters rising 10 to 15 feet high. It must have seemed an insurmountable barrier to many. Yet, God had a plan. He instructed Joshua to send the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant ahead of the people. As soon as their feet touched the water's edge, God promised to part the river.

This moment required tremendous faith and courage. It's easy to imagine the doubts and fears that must have rippled through the crowd. But Joshua, following God's command, led the people forward. And true to His word, as soon as the priests' feet touched the water, God parted the Jordan, allowing the Israelites to cross on dry ground.

This miraculous crossing teaches us a profound lesson: when we step out in faith and obedience, God moves in powerful ways. Often, we pray for God's intervention, hoping He'll solve our problems without any effort on our part. But God's answers frequently involve our participation. He gives us a job when we pray for provision. He may bless us with a better position that comes with challenges, helping us grow in patience and teamwork.

The key is to align our hearts with God's will and to take those first steps of obedience, even when the path ahead seems uncertain or even impossible. As we do, we often find that God has already been working behind the scenes, preparing the way long before we even knew we needed it.

After the crossing, God instructed Joshua to create a memorial using twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan. This act of remembrance was crucial. It served as a physical reminder of God's faithfulness for generations to come. When future children would ask about the meaning of these stones, parents could recount the miracle of the Jordan crossing and God's deliverance.

In our own lives, it's easy to forget God's goodness, especially when we're in the midst of trials or struggles. That's why it's so important to create our own "memorials" - tangible reminders of God's faithfulness in our lives. These could be journal entries, photographs, or even simple objects that remind us of specific moments when God moved on our behalf.

As we build these memorials, we're not just preserving our own faith; we're creating a legacy for those who come after us. This is particularly crucial for parents and leaders. The choices we make and the examples we set have far-reaching impacts. Are we pointing our children and those we influence towards the enduring truths of God's word, or are we inadvertently directing them towards temporary pursuits like entertainment, material possessions, or worldly success?

The story of Joshua and the Israelites also reminds us of the importance of moving forward, even in the face of loss or change. When Moses died, it would have been easy for the people to become paralyzed by grief and uncertainty. But God's message to Joshua was clear: "Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them."

Sometimes, we need to leave the past behind and embrace the new thing God is doing. This doesn't mean we forget those who have gone before us or the lessons of the past. Rather, it means we honor their memory by continuing to move forward in faith, building on the foundation they laid.

In our fast-paced, ever-changing world, it can be tempting to chart our own course, to do things "my way." But the truth is, God's way is always the best way, even when it doesn't make sense to our limited understanding. The right way of living is God's way, and there is no other that leads to true fulfillment and purpose.

As we navigate life's challenges, we're called to walk faithfully with God, just as Enoch did for 300 years. This walk isn't about sprinting or leaping; it's about taking steady, consistent steps of faith day by day. It's about filtering our decisions through God's word, seeking His guidance in prayer, and trusting His leading even when the path ahead is unclear.

Building a legacy of faith isn't always easy. It often involves sacrifice, stepping out of our comfort zones, and facing our fears. But as we do, we find that God shows up in beautiful and unexpected ways. He provides strength when we feel weak, courage when we're afraid, and community when we feel alone.

In the body of Christ, we're never truly alone. The love and support of fellow believers can carry us through even the most challenging transitions and trials. This is the power of the church - a family united by faith, supporting one another as we all seek to follow God's leading.

As we reflect on these truths, let's challenge ourselves to leave a godly legacy. Every one of us is having an impact on someone, whether we realize it or not. Are we being the right example? Are we building memorials of faith that will inspire and encourage future generations?

Let's commit to taking daily steps of faithfulness, trusting God even when the way forward seems uncertain. Let's be courageous and obedient, ready to do as God says so that we may see the fulfillment of His promises in our lives.

Que nuestras vidas sean testimonios vivientes de la fidelidad de Dios, guiando a otros a confiar en Él mucho después de que nos hayamos ido.
