Following a lifetime journey of transformation
2 Kings 23:25
Neither before nor after Josiah was there a king like him who turned to the Lord as he did—with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, in accordance with all the Law of Moses.
What made this King so great before God? I mean, we know that King David was a King after God’s own heart, how can you top that? The truth is that in our days we have made great emphasis in God’s unending love without paying attention to the reason behind God’s love.
It is true that God’s love is unconditional, he loves us regardless, but without surrendering to His love it will make us no good to know how much He loves us.
To experience the fullness of God’s love we are obligated to surrender everything.
We all, by nature, are in constant pursue of appreciation, respect, love… greatness. But in God’s kingdom greatness is not obtained with luck, greatness is always the product of faithfulness.
This king mentioned in the verse at the beginning of this post, destroyed everything and anything that could potentially lead astray the people to worship other gods. He didn’t say, “well, I will just leave these things here, and I am sure that when people fall in love with the true God they will not be tempted anymore”. No, he was so determined to follow God, that he literally destroyed everything that could lead people astray.
History tells us that when Hernando Cortez, the Spanish explorer arrived by ship on the beach of Mexico, he was challenged by the Aztecs; many had been defeated by the Aztecs before. How would Cortez motivate his men to be brave? What Cortez did was an extreme move; he simply sank their ships leaving his men with no way to return to Spain. Talk about determination, they would either win or die.
What ships do you have to sink today? Are there any areas of your life that continue to pull you away from God? May be you need to sink some ships today and allow God to show you the fullness of His love. The good news is that when we sink those ships that pull us away from God, our victory is guaranteed.
I still have to sink some ships every day. Would you join me?
