Following a lifetime journey of transformation
Genesis 4:6-7 NLT
6“Why are you so angry?” the lord asked Cain. “Why do you look so dejected? 7You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.”
I must admit, I am prideful and I love to be right. Over the last few weeks I have tried and tried to not let my feelings control the way I respond to different situations in my daily walk. Have I succeeded? Some days I have, and some others I have failed.
“Why are you so angry?” God asked Cain. Why? Tell me, what is the real reason for your anger and frustration? It even makes you look sad and discouraged. Cain’s offering had been rejected by God and this made Cain give into frustration, anger, and sadness. He had a heart problem even before God rejected his offering.
And then grace shows up. “You will be accepted if you do what is right”
God is a God of second (and third and fourth and fifth, etc.) chances. He gives us in the moment of our frustration the opportunity to turn to him and surrender our pride.
Not that we earn His love if we accept his offer, we just receive it then; undeserving love.
Because if we stay in our pride for too long, sin will take over. Pride is the forerunner of sin so we must be willing to take control of it. Because if we don’t, we will ultimately be controlled by sin.
Just do what is right. Living in victory over sin is not as hard as it sounds, but pride keeps us from even recognizing our faults.
Do what is right even when you don’t feel like it. It is not easy, but it is definitely possible.
Are there any areas in your life where you struggle to do what is right? God is willing to help you overcome.
Just do what is right.
