Then Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” -John 5:8
It's easy to be paralyzed and quit trying when we face opposition and discover how inadequate we are for the task ahead. I'm often overtaken by insecurity, thoughts of incompetence and fear of failing. Can you relate?
I know that I am not alone, and you probably have been there too, a stage where what you know is what you keep doing because where you are is not as bad as it could be. So you quit dreaming and even hoping for greater things to accomplish.
As believers in Christ, we are not called to be passive and just enjoy the benefits of salvation, we are called to be audacious in fulfilling God's mission empowered by the miracle and benefits of God's grace. We might be saved but not moving forward, and that is a sad stage to be in.
Edmund Burker said: "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.”
It is true, God has been good, and we have come a long way from where we used to be. But this year, let’s not settle for it, let’s not for a moment think that this is it, that we can now get comfortable and settle for what we see. Maybe the reason we have settled is because we are afraid of trying new things and reinventing ourselves. We have allowed what we cannot do keep us from doing what we can.
Don’t give up before you give it a try, in Christ you can do what he has called you to do. Find opportunities, be audacious. What got you here might not be what will get you there. God has more to show you, but he will wait on you to believe it and get up and walk.
It’s time to get up!
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.
