What would we be without words? We would not be able to communicate our feelings, needs, thoughts, well nothing! And here comes my bigger question, how can an infinite God express to us His feelings and not be complicated? You know this was coming, the God thing, I always get God involved in my conversations, posts, blogs, etc…. Yes I do, and I can’t help it. He overwhelms me and keeps me going, He is everywhere at all times all the time and I can’t get him out of my everyday life.
So I was saying that God tries to explain to us His love with words. The Bible contains the story of humanity and God’s involvement in it, in fact our existence and the reason for it is explained in it. Through it, we learn about who God is, his interest in humanity, and his plan of redemption for us. But God’s word, the Bible, is more than words. It is a picture of what true love looks like. It is easy to get lost in all the information contained in this book filled with stories, narratives, parables, proverbs, and predictions about the future. But the problem is not that we sometimes can’t make sense about many of these stories (they all make sense though), the biggest issue is that we often don’t want to make sense of the ones we understand because it will, in most cases, involve the exposure of our weaknesses.
I have been trying to read my Bible with a willingness to be confronted with my weaknesses and let God deal with them. Understanding God’s love is not complicated, but it is definitely threatening to our ego, pride, and self sufficiency. To understand and receive God’s love we must be willing to accept that without it we are broken and lost; hopeless. And it is at that point that we no longer need to understand and comprehend all the stories, narratives, and predictions about the future because they all point to the same truth, that God is love. God not only explains His love through the whole Bible, He demonstrates His love.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Perhaps sometimes we need to stop trying to understand it all and just receive this love. When we choose to understand and receive His love, everything else He has to say will make a lot more sense.
Choose His love.
